Around the World

Buenos Aires – I have mentioned before the world of memes, those lovely series of questions that get passed around from blogger to blogger. One of my regular readers has “tagged” anyone who wants to participate in the Around the World food blogging meme, and since I was exhausted after Saturday’s dinner and yesterday’s post on the same, I thought I’d give it a shot.

1. Please list three recipes you have recently bookmarked from food blogs to try:

  • It isn’t exactly a recipe, but a description of a dish that makes me want to recreate it, “papardelle tossed simply with nutty brown French butter, fresh cracked pepper, roasted garlic and a chiffonade of arugula” from Andrea Strong’s review of Aix.
  • Again, a review – from the Washington Post’s review of Sette Bello, described as “pizzetta con tonno crudo : grilled pizza dough topped with a lemon-infused mascarpone sauce, sliced tomato and tuna topped with sliced jalapeños, thin circles of red onion and a scattering of salt. The lemon sauce is drizzled over and a small salad is served alongside”
  • And, the same, from the New York Times’ review of Giorgione 508 – “ricotta and marjoram ravioli in a sauce of burst cherry tomatoes, peas and butter”

2. A food blog in your vicinity:

There are a lot of Buenos Aires blogs, and a lot written by expats from various parts of the world. The only one I’ve found that spends a decent amount of time on food is The BA Blog. Probably better, however, is a site that is less of a blog and more of a forum/blog/wiki – El Cuerpo de Cristo.

3. A food blog located far from you:

I decided to figure out roughly where the antipode of Buenos Aires is in the world (the point I’d get to if I dug straight through the earth’s core) – which puts me somewhere around the border of China and North Korea. Closest food blogs I’ve found? Phnomenon in Cambodia; there used to be a food blog in Seoul, Korea, Fatman Seoul, but he stopped blogging a year ago when he left Seoul; from Thailand, Real Thai; and currently active from Korea: Zen Kimchi.

4. A food blog (or several) you have discovered recently (where did you find it?):

I don’t recall how I got to it, but it’s Oslo Foodie, in particular, I got there because of his post on cooking up a sheep’s head – don’t ask – I truly don’t remember what it was about that post that got me to his blog, I know I was searching for something, and I know it wasn’t how to cook a sheep’s head.

5. Any people or bloggers you want to tag with this meme?

Like Chef Paz, I’m just going to tag anyone who feels like continuing on with this. Facebooktwitterredditpinterestlinkedinmail
