One thing you can do for the tip is ask them to add it before they process the bill – while they don’t have a line to add one in, because obviously they prefer cash, many of the better restaurants actually can just add a tip in as a line item. Of course, the result is, there’s a good chance at some places that the waiter will never get it, the owner will just pocket the extra. But it doesn’t hurt to ask.

At least, though way overpriced, Las Lilas serves good food. Unfortunately, as to the owners doing anything about it – they ran the old place for more than a decade and continually touted themselves as one of the best in town, even offering classes to tourists in how to do an asado properly. Since their clientele are, for the most part, single visit ones, i.e., tourists who just try it out because it’s there (or because they mistake it for La Cabaña Las Lilas) or a hotel concierge recommended it because it was convenient, they’ll likely never pay attention to negative feedback nor do anything different. Let’s face it, their GuiaOleo food and service scores have been hovering in the 10-15 range out of 30 for at least the last 6 years that I’ve been here and they haven’t changed. At least I didn’t come away feeling like it was just me who didn’t get some local place – out of our group of eight, six are directly involved in the restaurant industry – two of them in the US, one in the UK, and three of us here, and the other two work for a Chilean food/wine television station. Not one of us liked the place. I’m actually sort of hoping that word gets back to them through the winery and the two local wine guys, one of whom was the contact person who set stuff up with the winery.
