Perhaps – at the same time, we just found the food at Santo Coyote to be just sort of average quality. That said, we realize it was a buffet day, and on a day where one is ordering off the menu, I imagine it’s a step up, just simply in being freshly made to order. Still, we would have liked to have the stomach space to give a shot at some of those stands in the tianguis.

While some street food can be surprisingly good, the problem is that it usually looks better than it really is. Sanitation isn’t the issue, because most vendors are very careful, but stale oil is another matter. I can’t begin to count the number of times I’ve been seduced by the appearance of street food, only to be disappointed after the first bite.
