For the last few years, Rawa has been among our favorites. And everyone’s entitled to the occasional slip or mistake. But much of how I view a restaurant is based on the way they handle those. On a visit in November 2019, one of our plates, a combinado de pato, was doused in a lake of oil in a bowl. When we complained, the waiter’s response was that we didn’t know anything about Peruvian food and it’s just the way it is. Further insistence that he take the dish back to the kitchen resulted in his turning nasty, snatching the plate, heading back to the kitchen, and refusing not only to have the plate replaced with one not swimming in oil, but refusing to take an order for a different dish to replace it. The woman behind the counter’s response was, he’s the waiter, take it up with him. We paid for the other plate, refused to pay for this one, and walked out, never to return.
