Up the Lazy River

“Up a lazy river by the old mill run, that lazy, lazy river in the noonday sun.”

– Sidney Arodin, songwriter, chorus to Lazy River

I’m going to be as lazy as the Rio de la Plata in this post and leave it pretty much all to the photos. My usual trips to Uruguay are via Buquebus to Colonia or Montevideo, but this last week I wanted to visit with my friend Karen from Estancia Tierra Santa (you’ve really got to go when you just want to get away from it all and be pampered), so it was a very early morning with my friend Allan on a bus up to Tigre and then a catamaran upriver to Carmelo via Cacciola (amazingly disorganized, both the people running the launch service and the immigration and customs at both ends of this trip – you’d think they’d never done it before), lunch at Piccolino (decent chivito uruguayo and pizza, and great licuados) on the main square with Karen and a couple of her arriving guests who had also been on the boat, a quiet afternoon hanging out at the estancia, a bit of a wander through the center of town and then a late evening return along the same route.
