Flower Arrangements

“By cultivating the beautiful we scatter the seeds of heavenly flowers, as by doing good we cultivate those that belong to humanity.”

– Robert A. Heinlein, author

Saw several adverts for a big flower show this past weekend and thought it sounded like something different to head off and do. Misread it though, it was a florists show, the 1ra Exposición de la Cooperativa Argentina de Floricultures Ltda., held out in Barracas. They were providing free shuttle vans from several points around the city, back and forth, so I hopped on one and in short order found myself at a massive warehouse on a grimy industrial street behind a train station. Inside was, at least, clean, but it wasn’t in much better shape, and the “show” turned out to be one florist after another displaying their flower arrangements, and not much else. A couple of vendors of plants, and I did pick up some daffodil bulbs for the garden; and a stage setup where a musical group that reminded me of an Argentine version of The Fabulous Thunderbirds was offering up sort of blues and rock style tango. There weren’t even that many florists there – less than half the warehouse was actually in use for the show. Still, a 40 minute wander and then the next shuttle back….
