[...] Ed. Note: By the way, Dan has another seafood pancake recipe on his blog. It’s made completely with regular flour, mussels, shrimps, and cockles. He prepares his pancakes on the stove and finishes it off in the broiler. Check it out here!
Chickpea flour shouldn't be that difficult to find, especially in the north part of Manhattan - very common in Central/South American and Carribean markets - look for "harina de garbanzos".

Everything looks really good. You've made me hungry now.

Your seafood pancake reminds me of a recipe that my friend recently sent me. I haven't had time to make it but it's on my list to try. It's a Spanish recipe (or based on a Spanish recipe) by Mark Bittman and the ingredients include chickpea flour (I never heard of chickpea flour and haven't found it yet that's probably why I haven't tried this recipe yet), white flour, baking powder, scallions, shrimps or fish and chives... Hmm... You've inspired me to attempt making it maybe over the weekend. I'll see.

Have a good weekend.

About the only place you can count on to find it is Barrio Corea, in bajo Flores. Sometimes in Barrio Chino but not always. You could also whip some up yourself - friend David Lebovitz has posted an easy to follow and make recipe on his blog - he lives in Paris and misses kimchi as well! http://www.davidlebovitz.com/archives/2008/02/a_kimchi_recipe.html

My best friend in the US is Korean and I love her moms food - she has a Korean BBQ in Garden Grove, LA Cali.
I am dying for some kimchi with rice - so simple yet so satisfying - can you recommend me a place to buy some in Buenos Aires for my next trip over there from Mendoza? The walmart and jumbo here just recently started stocking Mexican refried beans and other Mexican delicacies - its like a freakin revolution for my tastebuds here in the "interior"..... Love your blog - its the only one I read. Chau

Oh, man, scallion pancakes. I had other versions of this, but with bamboo shoots imbedded inside, too, and sans the cockles and mussles. Really good drowned in plain, pinoy, garlic vinegar. Will try this at home. Dessert looks wonderful, too!
