Norman, thank you for the lovely thoughts on the dinner you attended, and your thoughts on the Arkansas dinner. Let alone turnip greens, I wish we could get turnips here! The plain white ones show up occasionally in Barrio Chino, but not often - and if you ask for a turnip, you usually get a daikon, one of those giant Japanese radishes. Just not the same thing, you know?

since i was one of your diners last november i am sorry i was not around for the arkansas dinner. being from little rock i was pleased to learn of your interest in c. vann woodward and arkansas food. the chicken (all of the state) wings, trout (north arkansas rivers/streams), tomato (south arkansas) soup and peach fried pie was spot on. east arkansas has excellent peaches. i would note that turnip greens with ham drippings/pieces would certainly have been appropriate side dish as well. turnip greens are always accompanied by corn bread. fried chicken would also have been appropriate. my experience last november with your dinner was one of the highlights of my trip to buenos aires. i hope to return someday for another dining experience. regards, nlh
