I don't read or comment about this site as much as I should, but I'm glad you are going back to how you want to do things. Keep up the witty "verbose"!

Sally - for my part, I don't mind responding to comments, if I see something that I think would benefit from a response, like not having you go to sleep weeping inconsolably.

Ken - I agree completely on the whole media convergence thing. I think it's much of the point that the author of the quote above tries to make in his article (well worth reading by the way, though it will take more than a sound-byte length of time to do so). And your conclusion is exactly why I don't want to do things like 30-60 second commentaries - I think they give people a too superficial view of the topics I try to cover, lead them to expect something that's completely different than what they'll actually experience, and, at least for me, takes away from the written word. It sort of fits into the old "Did you read the book for class?' "No, but I rented the movie."

There are so many people (and their blogs) that just go on and on in lengthy remarks or their writing without saying much of anything. Not you, Dan. I understand completely about being bored with writing. It just comes with the territory. But you have a unique vantage point, and there are many of us who relish your posts very much. I've been lucky enough to visit you and see BA once, but how many of us get to do that?

I enjoy your colorful observations about life, people, scenes and occasionally restaurants and food on Argentina. They're quite interesting.

As far as writing work and little video vignettes, two words: media convergence. This is the theory that reporters should know how to work across different media so their paper, station or whatever can reach a wider audience. In this age of shrinking ad revenue at papers and magazines, this concept is literally seen by many in the business as a life raft.

I taught students in a recent journalism course about this, and many were dedicated to following the convergence path. I'm not a big supporter. I see the financial point, but I think it contributes to the dumbing down of society. Everyone expects the Cliff Notes version of things instead of any real substance that requires deep thought and focus. Heaven forbid!

What you said. Plus, I'm thinking of stopping responding to my comments. It takes a lot of time and drags my energy away from the blogging. Of course, if you don't respond to this comment, I'm going to cry myself to sleep. Love, Saratica

Just to say, having read this evening's post, that I will relish your longer and meandering reflections! Of course, I read your posts less for restaurant reviews than for your incisive cultural observations, which I continue to enjoy very much!

Take it from a parish priest, you ain't ever gonna please them all, and its always better to stay true to your muse.

Bravo!! There is no flattering way to use the term "long-winded." It would never apply to any of your entries; since discovering your blog, I have spent a lot of time in your archives. To be able to communicate one's reactions, feelings, and thoughts requires the use of well-chosen words in appropriate quantities. Follow your instinct and keep giving us what you find appropriate. Sometimes, despite the over-used maxim, "more is MORE."
