Dan,

Antojitos passed with flying colors. He said it was very authentic and he and I especially liked the patacones. They were just like you described them and that is, according to my dad, the way they should be. We shared a "picadita" and a "Bandeja Paisa". I had my little two year old who ate "carne a la plancha" served with rice, and she ate most of it. I helped her with the rest.

Also the fresh juices were pretty good too (made from fruit) in this case we tried pineapple.

It's not so much that I think Gabo's food is disappointing as they're taking home cooking and just presenting it as if it was something more, and then, simply charging alot more for the presentation. If they were reinterpreting the dishes and making them more... haute cuisine, they could have something really interesting going on. But as it is, they're not producing anything of better quality than Antojito is, so why not go for the more casual atmosphere and price? We didn't, by the way, check out the desserts at Antojito, for all I know they're doing something similar or others that are interesting, we were just too full to even consdier them.

I think I might just have to go to Gabo for the dessert. I will tell them to skip the menu, Saltshaker Dan sent me.

Sure doing. I´ll let you know what he thinks. I think I will take him to Gabo for the dessert as well. Being he is Colombian, the food does sound like it will disappoint so I wont even try.

Thanks! Let me know what he thinks of it.

I forgot to mention that Gabo also had a really decadent sort of dessert - not particularly elaborate, but we just couldn't pass up sharing a plate after we saw someone at a neighboring table trying them - brevas con arequipe - or figs (in this case candied in syrup...) topped with a very dark dulce de leche. Almost overkill in terms of sweetness... no, it really was overkill... but we didn't leave any on the plate!

Dan,

I loved the side by side review! My dad is coming into town and he grew up in a small Colombian town. I think I will take him to Antojito because I am sure it has been a while since he has had Colombian dishes. I am sending this post to him as well.

Thanks!
