For your software backups, I advise buying an external CD/DVD burner. As you know, DVD's hold a ton more than CDs. Plus, you'll be able to open all my research material on how ketchup really is a vegetable.

All the things like my documents and photos and such were all backed up, I do that weekly, and for critical stuff, as soon as they're saved - believe me, I've been working with computers long enough for that - and this isn't my first hard disc crash. But for things like programs, especially those that were downloaded from somewhere, they're often too big to save on a single disc, and they simply have to be re-downloaded. The only thing I haven't found a "re-download" link for is my upgraded Paint Shop Pro program - everything else was simply a matter of signing into accounts and downloading again. So, with that one exception (and I've sent a note off to customer service), all is back to the usual.

If you don't already do so, I strongly suggest that you begin making routine backups of any important data on your computer. I'm assuming the repair was for a new hard drive, but new or not, things can happen. Of course, I use a Macintosh so wouldn't know about Dell.

Also, do you really mean to say ketchup is not a vegetable?
