Well, the wordpress instructions were not helpful - basically just telling you where to make the modifications, but now how - and believe me, the coding isn't in plain english. However, the link on the same discussion page to a registration plugin seems to work, and is installed - hopefully it will alleviate the spam filter problem you two mentioned! <em>[Nope, didn't work well, removed it - looking for another]</em>

There are two problems with that email, IMHO: 1) it is extremely short (three words and a link, looks like spam) and 2) the subject (that's less likely but if you decide to do it...).

You could create a custom message of more than 20 non commercial words and maybe change the subject to "Welcome to Saltshaker" or the like.

Found "You can also edit the default e-mail text in the following file:
w-p/includes/pluggable-functions.php
Look around line number 165." at http://wordpress.org/support/topic/98038

Hope it helps get you more comments! (Well it already worked for my part, hehe!)

Hi Dan,

I thought I'd register and leave a comment - and confess to being yet another anonymous reader.

First, I registered using my gmail account and the PW email arrived in my spam filter initially. I doubt there's anything you can do to alleviate that from your side. I didn't see any spam filter settings in my gmail so - no clue.

I read your blog all the time from Savannah, Georgia, USA. I have been reading several BA blogs in order to get a sense of the city since I am considering a trip, if not relocating for a few months to check it out. I'm not a "foodie" but I love to try new things and have traveled all over. I'll definitely check out some of the places that you rate well when I visit. Timing is still up in the air but I am considering March / April.

It is really cool that there are so many informative and well written expatriate blogs for BA. I appreciate all the different viewpoints, descriptions, photos and information. Yours is definitely one of the better blogs. I'm glad you take the time to do it. Thanks.

Hello.
I am one sneaky user.
I read your Blog at work and at home.
Also at some very very unusual situation (i.e. in a long bus ride, or waiting room at some dentist or whatever) I read it on the phone via Opera Mini Browser.

So I came to this geeky conclusion: Opera pre-processes the web pages before "sending" them to the phone, and Opera is Based in Oslo, Norway, so perhaps I could show as logging in from Norway (How Continental!)

At home I have plain old cablemodem so I must be appearing to be logging in from Argentina.

At work we have a VPN-like connection and connect via the US, so there you have it: a truly schizoid reader-user.

" “Sri Lankan”, at least in English. Not sure what they’d call themselves… "

They probably call themselves lucky forat least some survived the tsunami and still have internet! Damn! ;-P

I honestly wouldn't have a clue how to change the e-mail, it's generated automatically by the wordpress software when you register. But, also, you're the first person out of several dozen with gmail adresses who's told me there was a problem registering because of a spam filter. I'm not sure why there would be - it's not a mass e-mail, it's sent specifically to you, and it's a registration password - no words in it that ought to be caught by a spam filter. Ah well, if it comes up again, I'll see what I can find out about altering it.

Right. Like registering was so easy! No, seriously, there's a problem with the password email being cought by the spam filter (at least that's a problem with Gmail); maybe you can change the message not to look like spam?

BTW, I only knew Sri Lanka was called Ceylon by a half-brit tea-obsessed chap that I happened to meet when I was 12; and believe me I had some srilanki (?) stamps on my collection!
