Well, but it's all by comparison. Sure, if this was New York City and we'd gotten a table on an Easter Sunday like that (actually, that was the easy part - it's not like there were a huge number of people out and about on Easter Sunday, it was pretty quiet) it would be remarkable. And yes, $14 a person for water, cheese, coldcuts, and some main courses would be, on the flipside, unremarkable. But by Buenos Aires prices, it's ridiculously high - don't forget, that was only 6 main courses for 10 people to share, plus two plates of cheese/meat, one salad, and one provoleta, and still averaged out to that. Hey, we could have gone to your favorite parrilla here, Des Nivel, and each had a three-course meal for that.

I didn't have any idea that the Sur de los Andes was a wine you were importing to New York - great pick obviously.

As promised, here is a link to Alder's writeup of these wines on Vinography. As I commented above, it's interesting to see different perceptions. You'll see we only sort of agreed, more or less, on four of them, and then on the Nómade and the Durigutti, had basically opposing opinions. And there's the fun of wine tasting and individual personalities!

Dan: Thank you for the comments on the SUR de los Andes Reserva. It is just arriving here after a fabulous run on the 2003. The Bonarda has been an incredible success, far beyond what I had expected. Your old buddy Matt uses an expletive in front of his "good wine" comment.

On the other hand you are becoming quite the Porteño. You complain about $14 a person for bottled water, cheese and chorizo and six main courses? The bottled water would have cost you $14 a head at Bubby's at Sunday Brunch. And try to get 10 seats at a a moment's notice (not to mention outstanding service).

My goodness gracious. I wonder if it will happen to me next June.
