Park of the Patricians

Buenos Aires - When I wander, I often like to wander without any particular aim. This has, once or twice, or perhaps more than that, landed me in some neighborhoods of the world that were, shall we say, less than savory. I’ve never ended up with a problem, though occasionally I find myself wondering just [...]

O Linda, O Linda

Sunday, December 11th, 2005

 Oh Linda, oh Linda
Oh Linda, oh Linda
Oh my Linda, me Linda
Oh my heart, oh Linda
Oh my love, me Linda
Your love is sweeter than wine, honey
Oh wine, honey
So please, please, baby
I want your love o
I want your children o, to be mine
Please, please, marry me
Oh, girl, I go die o
Oh, my love o
Destiny has put us [...]

Wandering San Telmo

Saturday, December 10th, 2005

Buenos Aires - The first time I vacationed in Buenos Aires I stayed in the neighborhood of San Telmo. Despite its touristy bent, it’s still one of my favorite neighborhoods to wander, with some of the more interesting, if dilapidated, architectural features to be found on homes; its central Mercado - a mixed farm stand, [...]

Retiro

Wednesday, December 7th, 2005

Buenos Aires - I’d seen a posting for a photography show, at the Fernández Blanco Museum of Hispanic American Art, Suipacha 1422, of the work of Edward S. Curtis. It sounded fascinating, if nothing particularly “Hispanic American,” being an exhibition of some of his photos of North American Indians. His work entailed 24 years of [...]

A Little Vino

Tuesday, December 6th, 2005

Buenos Aires - A couple of recently sampled wines:
Rodas Colección 12 Sangiovese Rosé 2005 - Once again, ripe, dead-on varietal character from this line. Flavors of strawberry, cherry, and peach, perfect for a hot spring or summer evening. One of the better Sangiovese rosés I’ve had. Highly recommended.
San Telmo Sauvignon Blanc 2005 - This 30-year [...]

Leftover Closeup

Monday, December 5th, 2005

Buenos Aires - A couple of folk who didn’t make it to the party - either you just didn’t show up, or maybe you’re living in Sweden or something - wanted a better look at some of the food. So why not, I’ve still got tons of leftovers. So, here’s my lunch today - clockwise [...]

Fiesta! Feliz Cumpleaño Henry!

Sunday, December 4th, 2005

Buenos Aires - The fiesta has come and gone, and it was quite the experience. Not one I’m likely to repeat at any time in the near (or distant) future. It was, by turns, exciting and exhausting, and a strange mix of sedate and bizarre. We’d called the party for 8:00 figuring folks would start [...]

Mi Corazon

Saturday, December 3rd, 2005

Buenos Aires - Generally, as I’ve mentioned a couple of times before, Henry doesn’t like it when I watch him cook. I think it makes him nervous. This actually happens to me quite a bit. I get that whole “you’re a professional chef” thing - and people either don’t want me to see how they [...]
